Needles: 1 pair of circular needles size 3,0mm - 4,0mm, 80 cm long or size needed to achieve required tension.
Pattern:
Edge patt: WS rows: k 1, p 1 cont to end.
RS rows: work the stitches even (k the k sts and p the p sts as they appear).
Stockinette st: RS rows: k all sts.
WS rows: p all sts.
Lace patt: (see chart) patt multiple of 18 plus 4 worked between 4 selvedge sts (2 sts each edge). Chart shows RS rows. WS rows p all sts and yo.
Rep rows 1-18 cont.
Selvedge sts: (2 sts each side): at beg of row: k 2; at end of row sl 2 p-wise wyif.
Tension: 21 sts and 32 rows to 10 cm meas. over lace pattern using size 3mm needles or size needed to achieve required tension.

Instructions given for size small, changes for larger sizes in brackets. The poncho is worked in one piece from side to side: (see schema). Width approx. 46 [54,5 -63] cm, length approx. 138 [149 - 160] cm.
Cast on 96 [114 - 132] sts. (94 [112 - 130] sts plus 2 selvedge sts) and work 3 rows in edge patt. beg. and ending with WS row.
Next 2 rows: stockinette st
Next row (RS): Work in lace patt according to chart. 2 selvedge sts., patt rep. 5 [6-7] times, end row with k 4, 2 selvedge sts.
Rep. patt. 24 [26-28] times until work meas. total of 136,5 [147,5 - 158,5] cm (= 437 [473 - 509] rows) ending after the 18th row of lace patt.
Next row (RS): k all sts.
Next 3 rows: work in edge patt.
Next row (RS): cast off all sts even.
Making up:
Pin out poncho to measurements given, cover with a clean damp cloth and leave to dry out of direct sunlight. Close seam along top edge as shown in schema.
Tassels 15 cm long (make 2): using the rem. yarn cut approx. 40 lengths of yarn each 30cm long, fold in half and tie off as shown.
Sew tassels to edge of poncho as shown in schema.
