The border is made up of individual Granny Squares that are sewn tog and then sewn onto the bottom edge of the skirt.

Pattern 2 (Top):
In rnds:
RS rnd: tr all sts.
WS rnds: dc all sts.
Every rnd of tr (or dc) beg with 1 [2] ch as turning ch (replacing the 1st tr) and ends with 1 sl st in the 1st [2nd] st turning ch of the beg of the rnd. Turn work after each rnd and work the foll rnd in the opposite direction.
Rows:
RS rows: tr all sts.
WS rows: dc all sts.
Each row beg with 1 [2] turn ch (replacing the 1st dc (or 1st tr) of previous row) and ends with 1 dc (or 1 tr) in the 1st [2nd] turn ch of the previous rnd beg.

Instructions: (Changes for larger size in brackets. If only one number is shown this applies to both sizes)
Beg with the bottom edge of the skirt (see diagram) using col. plum ch 194 [210] and close rnd with 1 sl st. Then cont. in pattern 1 using the col. as given in col. sequence until work meas. 25 cm (25 rnds). For the side shaping in every RS rnd (in the rnds that only tr are worked) equally divided along each rnd 4 x tr2tog 10 times. = 154 [170] sts.
The skirt is finished when work meas 50 cm.
For the top using col. burgundy and working in pattern 2 cont. in back and forth rnds. For the side shaping beg in the 1st rnd [for size 38/40 starting with the 3rd rnd] in every RS rnd (the rnds where only tr are worked) evenly spaced tr2 into one st 9 times across the rnd twice. = 172 [188] sts.
Rnd 18 [20] (11 [12.5 cm] from beg of top: divide work and cont. with patt 2 in rows working each top piece separately. The round joins form the left side seam (as shown in diagram).
For the left bra top: on the right hand working edge for the armhole sk the first 2 sts and cont in patt 2 over next 41 [45] sts. Work the side shaping in every row (RS and WS) dec 1 st each both side 17 [19] times as shown in chart. = 7 sts.
Next row(WS): dc 2, dc2tog twice, dc1. = 5 sts.
Now for the right bra top work as for left side over rem. 41 [45] sts.
Back: The first and last 2 sts rem unworked. In patt 2 over the centre 82 [90] sts work 18 [20] rows back and forth. Work the side armhole shaping in every row as shown in chart for accentuated garment decreases on each edge 18 [20] times. (= 11 [12.5]cm).
Straps: Using burgundy ch 44 [48] then work 1 row dc and 1 row tr.
TIP: Try on the dress and adjust the length of the straps accordingly.
For the bottom edge border make 12 [13] granny squares according to chart and col. sequence. Sew together by laying 2 granny squares facing out on top of each other and using a blunt needle pick up the outer edge of each stitch on each square. Continue until a ring of granny squares is formed. Then attach the top of the ring to the bottom edge of the skirt, if needed working any extra width from the granny squares into the bottom of the skirt.
Then along the bottom edge of the border: using col. caramel dc 1 rnd and tr 1 rnd. If desired the last rnd work picot sts over every 5th st. (= ch 3 and dc 1 in the front loop of the prev. rnd.)
Making Up:
Attach the straps to the top of the bustier and on the sides of the back. Then dc all edges including the straps with 3 rnds (1st rnd in burgundy, 2nd rnd in light green then 3rd rnd in caramel). If needed, between the bustier pieces, on the bottom arm cut outs and on the back strap edges work 2 or 3 dc tog to achieve crisper corners.
