Work 6 rows in rib patt then cast off all sts in patt. Work the front neck edge the same but pick up 49 [55] sts and work 2 buttonholes (as on front) in the 4th row over the 3rd and 4th sts after and before the selvedge sts. When work meas. 15 [17] cm total (rnd 52 [59] beg with top shaping decs by placing a marker at every 9th [10th] st.
Next rnd: * k 7, k 2 tog, rep from * to end of rnd. (The decs are worked over the marked st and the st before).

Rep from * until all of the ouster sts have been dec. = 6 sts rem. on needle. Now work in rnds over all needles. The beg of the rnd is the centre of the 6 sts just knit.
Next rnd (1st rnd): pick up 7 [8] sts from each heel edge. There are now 10 [11] sts on each of the 1st and 4th needles and 8 [9] sts on each of the 2nd and 3rd needles.
Next rnd: For the gusset on the 1st needle: k to 3 sts before end of needle, k 2 tog, k 1; k 16 [18] (2nd and 3rd needles); k 1, skp, k to end of rnd.
Work these decs in every 2nd rnd until 7 [8] sts are on each of the 1st and 4th needles.
Work straight to the 23rd [28th] row from the heel then work the toe.
Next rnd: * k to 3 sts before end of first needle, k 2 tog, k 1; k to 3 sts before end of 2nd needle, skp, k 1. Rep from * once more to end of rnd on the 3rd and 4th needles.
